Some women may need to gain weight to ensure a healthy pregnancy. Still others may need to lose weight and lower their blood pressure. Regardless, it’s important to form a healthy diet and exercise routine before you start a family. This way, your body will be ready for the rigors of gestation.
Cutting Out Bad Habits
There are few things more difficult than quitting smoking after years of habit. Tobacco is incredibly addictive, but if you want to get pregnant, you need to cut out unhealthy habits like smoking and drinking. If at all possible, start this process well before you become pregnant –– you won’t want to deal with cigarette cravings during hormonal spikes.
Sometimes, women may have an infectious condition that they’re not even aware of. Before you become pregnant, it’s a good idea to get tested for asymptomatic conditions –– such as STIs. Believe it or not, many people have common STIs and don’t even realize it!

The best way to guarantee you’re doing everything in your power to prepare your mind and body for pregnancy is to speak with your doctor. Develop a Support Network
There’s no shame in asking others for help. In fact, the sooner pregnant women assemble a reliable support network of friends, family members, and neighbors –– the better. Don’t discount the value of a friendly face and a helping hand because you’ll never know when you’ll need them!
